Huntington Beach's Immigrant Community by the Numbers
The 2020 Census counted 198,711 people in Huntington Beach, and the Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate puts the city at roughly 192,600. That makes it one of the largest cities in Orange County by population, even though it reads as a beach town.
According to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020 to 2024 five-year estimates shown in QuickFacts), about 17.6 percent of Huntington Beach residents were born outside the United States. That is a meaningful community of more than 30,000 people, but it is well below the Orange County share of roughly three in ten residents.
Put honestly, Huntington Beach is less immigrant-dense than inland neighbors such as Santa Ana, Westminster and Garden Grove. That matters in practice. There are fewer in-language legal service providers inside city limits, so many residents end up driving inland for help or filing on their own and hoping for the best.
ACS data and immigrant-population trackers show that the city's foreign-born residents most often come from Vietnam, Mexico and China, with sizable groups from the Philippines, Korea, the United Kingdom, Canada and Western Europe. The proximity of Little Saigon, which straddles the Westminster and Garden Grove borders, shapes the Vietnamese community on HB's north side.
